Peneda-Gerês National Park is the only national park in Portugal and was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It covers a vast area that extends from the Gerês mountains to the Peneda mountains, constituting a sanctuary of biodiversity and scenic beauty. Rich in flora and fauna, Gerês serves as a refuge for species such as the Iberian wolf, the garno (a type of wild horse) and an impressive variety of birds of prey.

We begin our trip in São Bento da Porta Aberta, a historic sanctuary of deep spiritual significance. This place is one of the most important pilgrimage centers in Portugal and attracts visitors from all over the country. The basilica dedicated to Saint Benedict is an example of religious architecture, with its imposing facade and beautiful stained glass windows.
