Peneda-Gerês National Park is the only national park in Portugal and was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It covers a vast area that extends from the Gerês mountains to the Peneda mountains, constituting a sanctuary of biodiversity and scenic beauty. Rich in flora and fauna, Gerês serves as a refuge for species such as the Iberian wolf, the garno (a type of wild horse) and an impressive variety of birds of prey.

Começamos o dia com uma visita às impressionantes Grutas de Mira de Aire, eleitas uma das Sete Maravilhas Naturais de Portugal. Explore os 600 metros abertos ao público dessas incríveis formações subterrâneas, admirando as estalactites, estalagmites e galerias esculpidas pela natureza ao longo de milhares de anos. O ambiente dentro da gruta é mágico, com iluminação especial que realça a beleza natural dessas maravilhas geológicas.

First stop: São Bento da Porta Aberta

 

We begin our trip in São Bento da Porta Aberta, a historic sanctuary of deep spiritual significance. This place is one of the most important pilgrimage centers in Portugal and attracts visitors from all over the country. The basilica dedicated to Saint Benedict is an example of religious architecture, with its imposing facade and beautiful stained glass windows. The serene environment of the sanctuary, surrounded by nature, provides a moment of reflection and peace. Here, you will have the opportunity to admire beautiful views of the region, appreciate the tranquility of the place and understand why it is such a popular destination.
